Umbrellas are used by individual to protect them from the heat of the sun and also the elements, wind, rain, snow and sleet. In countries where monsoon conditions exist, the umbrella is an essential item in their everyday life.

A unique characteristic of fashion umbrellas is that they have a curved handle. Fashion designers are using all types of umbrellas to create a common brand item to uniquely identify their company. In addition to fashion umbrellas, designers also uses umbrellas with straight handles. Regardless, the term fashion umbrellas applies to items with curved handles and also products developed by known designers.The functional use of these umbrellas is identical to any normal type. The difference is the designer attempts to manufacture something that has a slightly different shape and is trendy and fashionable in appearance.

When the economy is thriving, light and pastel colors are use. When the economy is depressed, dark and plain colors are offered.

Women prefer umbrellas with curved handles because they find them elegant and attractive in appearance. Men normally prefer umbrellas with a straight handle and are black in color. In recent years, men have become attracted to fashion umbrellas. The reason for this is that when the umbrella is closed, men use it as a walking stick.
